    "Log Cabin" pattern crib quilt with 25 wool and silk blocks of multicolored fabrics, tied with very red and deep blue yarn. Bordered with very dark bluish green wool and backed with blue and yellowish white cotton floral print. (Colors close to but not NBS.) Purchased by Joyce Aufderheide from Gilda Duetsch, New Ulm, MN. Aufderheides' (est.) handwritten note pinned to quilt had the following information: "This baby quilt was made by the late Mary Duetsch nee Gratwohl (est.). The boarder (sic) of this quilt are left overs (sic) from her wedding dress worn in November 1890." Quilt made sometime between maker's wedding (11/1890) and daughter Gilda's birth (1908).

    A pipe bowl (B) and stem (A), circa the mid-19th to mid-20th century. The bowl is carved out of red pipestone (catlinite); its shank and tobacco chamber are octagonal in cross-section. A square-shaped projection has been carved into its posterior. The stem is carved out of wood and is mottled with black accretions.

    A miniature wooden totem pole carved with bird and animal motifs, possibly Tlingit, circa the early 20th century. Written on the flat side of the pole is "ev/ $7.50/ Kicksetti", an Anglicization of the Tlingit clan name Kiksa'di. This specific pole is a not replica of any of the Kiksa'di clan's poles at Wrangell, Alaska, but of Tlingit Chief Shake's pole at Wrangell.

    Round wickerwork plaque is probably made of sumac twigs and rabbit brush. It has a black center and bands of gold, green, orange, black and natural tan plant fiber. The rim is wrapped in grayish green plant fiber strips. The plant is from the Third Mesa area of the Hopi Indian Reservation, Arizona.

    Pottery bull with dull red interior and exterior with tan slip and geometric decorations. The base is signed "Mary Juan" and has the following numbers on it: "75", "A172" and (crossed out) "32A". Made by Mary Juan, Maricopa Indian, circa the early to mid 20th century.

    A Dakota pipe stem carved out of red pipestone (catlinite), circa the late 19th or early 20th century. One-third of the stem is a smooth cylinder, with a raised lip at its end. The remaining two-thirds are carved into a spiral shape. See PUID# 2855.E286.A for matching bowl.

    Hoop made from willow with a rawhide webbing. Used as part of game to either try and throw a stick to catch a rolling hoop on the ground or to catch it with a stick thrown back and forth. Used by the Hidatsa Indians circa 1905-1918.

    A needlework sampler worked in colored wool yarns on a narrow but very long rectangular off-white ground. Approximately 45 different border designs run along the shorter side. The initials “JM” are stitched at one end and near the center of the sampler. Probably dated circa mid- to late 19th century.

    A needlework sampler worked in pink and blue threads on a rectangular off-white fine linen ground. Only six inches of one end is embroidered. Four rows of repeating designs run the shorter length of the sampler. The sampler was made by an unidentified woman.

Several cross-stitched complete and partial alphabets are stitched in rows across the top half of the sampler. The three sets of initials using the letters MH, DW, and GH are in the lower left section of the sampler, with a fourth monogram potentially started to the right. The rest of the lower half is left blank.

    Side chair has a cushion back framed by wood molding. Seat apron has carved molding. Seat and back are upholstered in a diamond pattern gray greenish yellow and yellow white damask with braid trim and brass tacks [these are National Bureau of Standards colors]. Cabriole front legs end in wood casters. Back legs are round and curve inward.
