    Iron case for a German military issue gas mask, painted dark olive green. Stenciled on it in white is "1 GAS SCHUTZHAUBE". It has lugs for an olive carrying strap and is hinged along its bottom edge, with a spring-loaded hasp for closure. Circa 1917.

    United States Army issue World War I-era gas mask enclosed its olive drab canvas bag with carrying strap. The mask has a rubberized fabric mask with two glass covered oculi and a strap arrangement for holding it to the face. It is stamped "4W", indicating the size. The mask is connected via a white cloth-covered rubber tube to a painted yellow metal filter container. A waxed paper envelope tied to the tube near the mouth of the filter canister contains instructions for the correct use of gas mask equipment. The mask was worn or collected in France during World War I by Sergeant Egmund Koeneman of the 45th Engineers. This is a later version of the Corrected English Mask.

The bag is stamped "4", which indicates the size of the mask. The mask has a rubberized fabric mask with two glass covered oculi and a strap arrangement for holding it to the face. The mask is connected via a green cloth-covered rubber tube to a painted yellow metal filter container. Attached to the tube near the container's opening is a waxed paper envelope containing an instruction pamphlet. Also included is one metal canister of anti-dimming compound. Worn by Raymond F. Kelly of the Service of Supply, Advance Section. Kelly was a Saint Paul, Minnesota, speed skater. This style mask is known as the Richardson-Flory-Kops Mask and was an improved version of earlier models.

    United States Army issue World War I-era gas mask enclosed its olive drab canvas bag with carrying strap and "lift-the-dot" style fasteners. The bag is stamped "4" which indicates the size of the mast. The mask has a rubberized fabric mask with two glass covered oculi and a strap arrangement for holding it to the face. The mask is connected via an olive drab cloth-covered rubber tube to a painted yellow metal filter container marked "CANCO". Attached to the hose is a waxed paper envelope containing an instruction card. Also included is a metal canister of anti-dimming compound with application instructions. Used in France by Warren A. Dennis. This is a later version of the Corrected English Mask, which was the first style of American-made gas mask used overseas.
